<br />
<br />
Medium format is reborn! Of course, through the newly announced Canon EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R with 50 megapixels of full frame joy! The Canon EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R boasts a DIGIC 6 processor, 41 point cross type AF system, built in intervalometer and all for under $4000 USD.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yAKdy4IC7DA/VNTfjwH1GUI/AAAAAAAAAXc/gzvPNWfNK3U/s1600/EOS%2B5DS%2BR%2BBODY%2Bup%2BFRT.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="50 megapixel full frame DSLR with no low pass filter" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yAKdy4IC7DA/VNTfjwH1GUI/AAAAAAAAAXc/gzvPNWfNK3U/s320/EOS%2B5DS%2BR%2BBODY%2Bup%2BFRT.jpg" height="240" title="Canon EOS 5Ds R" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The Canon EOS 5Ds R has no low pass filter on the 50 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor to cater to the high resolution image professional. The LPF cancellation maximizes the sharpness and detail for the critical photographer.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OTC3UqydAvQ/VNThmwzdO3I/AAAAAAAAAXo/b2xlDG4fdi8/s1600/20150205_hiRes_eos5ds_top.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="FULL HD video dslr with no headphone jack" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OTC3UqydAvQ/VNThmwzdO3I/AAAAAAAAAXo/b2xlDG4fdi8/s320/20150205_hiRes_eos5ds_top.jpg" height="256" title="Canon EOS 5Ds" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Beware Canon EOS 5D Mark III owners! The high resolution 5Ds and 5Ds R has no headphone jack to monitor audio during video recording in movie mode. You do have the Mark III's Full HD capabilities along with a new Time Lapse video feature of the 5Ds and 5Ds R but of course no headphone jack! Leave it to Canon for this marketing blunder...BTW, NO 4K VIDEO unlike the lesser priced competition of the Sony A7S and Panasonic GH4. Really?
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SZMCnMZo430/VNTjjTy3vtI/AAAAAAAAAYE/ciknNRicd-4/s1600/CanonT6s.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS Rebel T6i" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SZMCnMZo430/VNTjjTy3vtI/AAAAAAAAAYE/ciknNRicd-4/s320/CanonT6s.jpg" height="256" title="Canon EOS Rebel T6s" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
No worries for the budget conscious DSLR Canon crowd! The newly announced Canon EOS Rebel T6s and T6i has 24 megapixels of cropped sensor goodness with EF-S mount to fill the gap with the pricey 5Ds. The flagship Rebel T6s now has a top body LCD screen along with an articulating rear LCD for high and low angle shots. The FULL HD video capabilities are there like the external microphone jack and the full manual video and audio control. The less expensive T6i has no top LCD screen and is basically a T5i in disguise...Budget means $849 and $749 for the T6s and T6i, respectively.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5e4mulOLhiU/VNTmDiIUfmI/AAAAAAAAAYY/d3_XyKYDLy0/s1600/EF%2B11-24mm%2Bf4L%2BUSM%2BSlant%2Bwithout%2Bcap.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM ultra wide zoom" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5e4mulOLhiU/VNTmDiIUfmI/AAAAAAAAAYY/d3_XyKYDLy0/s320/EF%2B11-24mm%2Bf4L%2BUSM%2BSlant%2Bwithout%2Bcap.jpg" height="240" title="Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
With all this new high resolution bodies, you need new glass in the Canon EF lens lineup. The new Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM will fill in the ultra wide zoom lens gap filled by Nikon recently. This ultra wide zoom lens will MSRP for $3000...Yikes!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DqSnhaMn7Eg/VNTnRoC_v8I/AAAAAAAAAYk/BYPix1z6hs0/s1600/EOS%2BM3%2BEF-M18-55STM%2BFSA%2BFlash.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS M3 24 megapixel mirrorless EF-M mount" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DqSnhaMn7Eg/VNTnRoC_v8I/AAAAAAAAAYk/BYPix1z6hs0/s320/EOS%2BM3%2BEF-M18-55STM%2BFSA%2BFlash.jpg" height="213" title="Canon EOS M3" width="320" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Sorry Yanks! The new Canon EOS M3 24 megapixel mirrorless powerhouse with built in wi-fi and articulating screen will not be offered in the USA. As a current Canon EOS M owner, this is a big mistake on Canon's marketing team. I love this form factor with compatibility with my EF glass. My envy grows with the Canon EOS M3's higher MP and built in flash...Really, again?

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsDZlje0pg8/VBbrQkhNjmI/AAAAAAAAAVU/eoYYgIQqflM/s1600/Canon7DMarkIIfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 7D Mark II review" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UsDZlje0pg8/VBbrQkhNjmI/AAAAAAAAAVU/eoYYgIQqflM/s320/Canon7DMarkIIfront.jpg" title="Canon EOS 7D Mark II" /></a></div>
<br />
After a long 5 years, the newly announced Canon EOS 7D Mark II replaces the venerable Canon EOS 7D. Considered the semi professional crop sensor workhorse, the original Canon 7D has been in a crowded market place since 2009. Canon finally stepped up the high performance crop sensor segment with the 20 megapixel Dual Digic 6 Canon EOS 7D Mark II with a host of new photo and video features for a MSRP of $1,799 USD.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjhJ3OmmB1Y/VBby9UeYFoI/AAAAAAAAAVk/rl84MtP78s8/s1600/Canon7DMarkIIrear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 7D Mark II review" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjhJ3OmmB1Y/VBby9UeYFoI/AAAAAAAAAVk/rl84MtP78s8/s320/Canon7DMarkIIrear.jpg" title="Canon EOS 7D Mark II" /></a></div>
<br />
The major highlights for photographers are AF points and the fast action frames per second. No more 7D 19 AF points, the 7D Mark II has 65 AF points to the likes of sports photographers paired with a fast 10 fps like the Canon 1D Mark IV. All this speed is supported by Dual DIGIC 6 processors to keep up with the faster buffer rate.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rs8jCL8a93c/VBbzwHAUbTI/AAAAAAAAAVs/seyLYgZl6WE/s1600/Canon7DmarkII%2Bside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 7D Mark II headphone jack" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rs8jCL8a93c/VBbzwHAUbTI/AAAAAAAAAVs/seyLYgZl6WE/s320/Canon7DmarkII%2Bside.jpg" title="Canon EOS 7D Mark II" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, now for the good stuff for all those HD DSLR video fanatics. Headphone jack, uncompressed HDMI out and Dual Pixel CMOS AF during video recording like the Canon EOS 70D briefly touches the amazing video specifications. Full HD video is now with a 60fps frame rate for slow motion applications and with the now commonplace ALL-I and IPB compression rates. I almost forgot, Time Code as well.<br />
Let me mention again, HEADPHONE jack for audio monitoring. Hurray! (Like the more expensive Canon 5D Mark III)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ad0qmUC2GLM/VBb1dKia7WI/AAAAAAAAAV4/mIUJu-RDRvQ/s1600/Canon7DMarkIIrear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 7D Mark II uncompressed HDMI video out" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ad0qmUC2GLM/VBb1dKia7WI/AAAAAAAAAV4/mIUJu-RDRvQ/s320/Canon7DMarkIIrear.jpg" title="Canon EOS 7D Mark II" /></a></div>
<br />
Now for the not so good stuff of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. No swivel touchscreen like the Canon EOS 70D as well as no built in Wi-Fi for remote monitoring and uploading with Canon EOS Remote App. IMHO, quite a strange product marketing move for Canon. The HD DSLR marketplace is very crowded with shrinking sales in a saturated environment nowadays. We will have to wait until a November 2014 product release date to get a hands on review of this long awaited Canon EOS 7D replacement.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3YIUg9JFGQ4/VBb2zTL4zII/AAAAAAAAAWE/KHVRErxwyCg/s1600/CanonEFS24mmpancake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="24mm pancake lens" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3YIUg9JFGQ4/VBb2zTL4zII/AAAAAAAAAWE/KHVRErxwyCg/s320/CanonEFS24mmpancake.jpg" title="24mm pancake lens" /></a></div>
<br />
In the meantime, the impatient will be appeased by new affordable lenses recently announced as well. The new EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens for $149 will satisfy the compact form factor crowd. We have already seen the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens for full frame but this shorter focal length will be a quick seller at this price point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VbueFjmqJp8/VBb3oVJ8RJI/AAAAAAAAAWM/GXwcuEnooZg/s1600/CanonEF24-105ISstm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="EF 24-105mm IS STM kit lens" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VbueFjmqJp8/VBb3oVJ8RJI/AAAAAAAAAWM/GXwcuEnooZg/s320/CanonEF24-105ISstm.jpg" title="EF 24-105mm IS STM kit lens" /></a></div>
<br />
The newly announced Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens for $599 USD will gladly replace the aging Canon EF 28-135mm IS kit lens seen with the Canon 5D Mark II and the original Canon EOS 7D. The only kit lens that has impressed me is the current Canon EF-S 18-135mm IS STM for its price point and lens quality.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The new ultra wide and ultra affordable Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4-5.6 IS STM kit lens enables first time DSLR owners wide angle lens opportunities. Landscapes, large group shots of people and other narrow situations where wide and up close is required.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uxa_tSNLGt0/U6C6d7lyiaI/AAAAAAAAAUY/StYdN92Iyco/s1600/EFS10-18mm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM Video Test by Chad Soriano" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uxa_tSNLGt0/U6C6d7lyiaI/AAAAAAAAAUY/StYdN92Iyco/s400/EFS10-18mm.jpg" height="640" title="Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM Video Test by Chad Soriano" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The built in image stabilization is great for low light shots and even better for stable video capture. For less than half the price of the more expensive Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens, the new EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a great value for the entry level DSLR owner.<br />

<br />
The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM ultra wide angle budget lens makes a perfect starter kit for the DSLR and mirrorless novice. Wide angle is needed in theme parks such as the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WC1181GXSRs/U6C9VyLe4dI/AAAAAAAAAUs/wM5W1ub3ONI/s1600/IMG_1713FathersDay_2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Seven Dwarfs Mine Train by Chad Soriano" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WC1181GXSRs/U6C9VyLe4dI/AAAAAAAAAUs/wM5W1ub3ONI/s400/IMG_1713FathersDay_2014.jpg" height="267" title="Seven Dwarfs Mine Train by Chad Soriano" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster with the tourist friendly Canon EF-S 10-18mm paired with the mirrorless Canon EOS M to evaluate the IS and the field of view from my seat. The results were outstanding considering this ultra wide lens is only $299 and cost less than the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens.<br />

The Canon EOS 70D with the amazing Dual Pixel CMOS AF for continuous AF servo during video recording hits a homerun for DSLR video capture. My Canon EOS 70D Video Test clearly demonstrates the pin point accuracy of the AF Servo during video recording and the very useful touchscreen controls for critical focus. Other great features include 3x to 10x Digital zoom for 1080p video, choice of ALL-I and IPB video compression, full manual control over video and audio, intuitive touchscreen controls with the articulating LCD screen and the remote features of the built in WiFi control make the Canon EOS 70D truly a winner in the competitive HD DSLR market.<br />

A 1080p video shot with the new Canon EOS 70D at 29.97 fps. Edited with Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 and used the Canon E-1 Movie Plugin 1.5 to transcode to AppleProRes422 from H264. I exported the FCP timeline using Compressor at "Best" quality to yield a 2 GB H264 video file for my Youtube upload.<br />

The Canon EOS 70D was paired with the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, EF 70-200mm f/4L IS, EF 300mm f/4L IS w/ EF 1.4x and the EF 35mm f/1.4L lenses. For stability, I used the Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid video head with BENRO 3580 tripod legs. For audio capture, I used the Sennheiser MKE400 shotgun microphone with wind muff and the RODE VideoMic GO microphone with RODE wind muff. To control incoming light to shoot wide open aperture, I used the FADER Mark II Variable ND Filter and the GENUS Variable ND Filter as well.<br />

To capture the "Blood Moon" Lunar Eclipse, I used the 3x to 10x Digital 1080p video zoom built in the Canon EOS 70D. This yields almost a 6400mm focal length equivalent with crop factor, extender and digital zoom for a great reach into the heavens.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-5cPjP72/0/L/i-5cPjP72-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 70D" border="0" height="320" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-5cPjP72/0/L/i-5cPjP72-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS 70D" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Filmmakers rejoice! A worthy replacement of the venerable <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/09/canon-eos-60d-verdict-and-video-review.html" target="_blank">Canon EOS 60D</a> workhorse has arrived. The new <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/news_events/press_releases?pageKeyCode=pressreldetail&docId=0901e0248093419a#" target="_blank">Canon EOS 70D</a> will be coming in September 2013 for a retail price of $1199 for body only. For that much coin, you get a 20 megapixel APS-C sized sensor with 19 point AF, 7 fps, touchscreen articulating LCD, built in Wi-Fi and the newly developed Dual Pixel CMOS AF for continuous AF during video recording. Anxious to get your hands on one?
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-m4wGthX/0/L/i-m4wGthX-L.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 70D with Dual Pixel CMOS AF" border="0" height="350" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-m4wGthX/0/L/i-m4wGthX-L.png" title="Canon EOS 70D with Dual Pixel CMOS AF" width="385" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
According to Canon, the new Canon EOS 70D coupled with the newly developed Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a "game changer" in the DSLR industry. Of course, we have heard this before with the 2008 Canon EOS 5D Mark II and certainly, Canon has to fill some big shoes at this point! As everybody knows, DSLR's are not conventional camcorders when it comes to AF during video recording. Canon attempted this feat with the <a href="http:http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html//">Canon EOS Rebel T4i</a> with much disappointment. Should I be cautiously optimistic with the new Dual Pixel CMOS AF of the Canon EOS 70D? I will not hold my breath for too long but there is always hope...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-5P77zDj/0/L/i-5P77zDj-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Canon EOS 70D" border="0" height="320" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-5P77zDj/0/L/i-5P77zDj-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS 70D" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Let us focus on the positives of the Canon EOS 70D for now. You get a touchscreen LCD like the T4i/T5i, 19 point AF which is an upgrade from 9 points, built in wi-fi like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2013/02/canon-eos-6d-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS 6D</a>, a very fast 7 fps shutter rate and plethora of manual video and audio controls for critical filmmaking. Here is an added bonus feature...gone are the days of mode dial rotating every time for video mode, we now have a dedicated movie mode button like the Canon EOS 7D. Hooray! All these goodies make the next couple months until the Canon 70D release in September 2013 give tech addicts the cold sweats!

<br />
<br />
Fuse Academy Award winning animated feature Happy Feet with Disney's Star Tours: The Adventure Continues and you get Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. Sea World's newest attraction in Orlando, Florida features a motion simulation ride that journeys through a live habitat of real penguins from the Antarctic. This past Memorial Day weekend grand opening of Sea World's newest exhibit met with large crowds including my family. The icy South Pole meets the hot and humid Orlando, Florida!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-FD7PhFR/0/L/i-FD7PhFR-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin Review in Orlando, Florida." border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-FD7PhFR/0/L/i-FD7PhFR-L.jpg" title="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin Review in Orlando, Florida." width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The freezing temperatures of the exhibit gave much needed relief from the two hours and twenty minute wait in line for Empire of the Penguins attraction in the Florida heat. To be exact, that is 140 minutes of standing in line for a two minute theme park ride. Patience is definitely a virtue!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-mxLdLkK/0/L/i-mxLdLkK-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin Review" border="0" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-mxLdLkK/0/L/i-mxLdLkK-L.jpg" title="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin Review" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The long line just continued around the exhibit like a never ending Department of Motor Vehicles line. As Florida resident season pass holders, we came to Sea World just for the grand opening weekend of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins and we expected the crowds and long wait!
<br />

<br />
<br />
With my smallest and lightest DSLR in the world, the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 paired with the Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Fisheye Cine lens, I captured almost the entire 2 minute ride to make a Full HD experience. The fisheye lens gave me a great wide POV perspective without missing any South Pole scenery. BTW, it was really dark and I had to push the ISO setting to 3200 and keep the lens wide open the whole time.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-WXpxQ4X/0/L/i-WXpxQ4X-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin motion simulation ride" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-WXpxQ4X/0/L/i-WXpxQ4X-L.jpg" title="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin motion simulation ride" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin theme park ride is family friendly. My whole family including my two year old daughter could enjoy the icy experience without harm or fear. The only harm came to my sore legs and overheated body from the 2 hour and 20 minute wait in line!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nxhhf6m/0/L/i-nxhhf6m-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins in Orlando , Florida." border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nxhhf6m/0/L/i-nxhhf6m-L.jpg" title="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins in Orlando , Florida." width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
So my Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin verdict? Definitely wait for a couple of months for the crowds to wane, especially with families with young impatient kids. My Empire of the Penguin theme park ride experience adds another decent but not spectacular exhibit to a live animal theme park. Sea World brings the icy South Pole to Orlando, Florida but hold off to any immediate visits until the hoards of people trickle down.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2Pfr4DC/0/L/i-2Pfr4DC-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2Pfr4DC/0/L/i-2Pfr4DC-L.jpg" title="Sea World's Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Antarctic penguins are a tough sell to the Disney theme park dominated Orlando, Florida. My family enjoys everything that Sea World has to offer with their educational marine life entertainment. A bit of theme park advice here...enjoy the reduced crowds at the other Sea World exhibits in the meantime. No one was at Shark Encounter for the first time!

<br />
<br />
My son's first reception of the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/05/welcome-holy-communicants.html">Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist</a> is cause for celebration and of course, formal pictures. Along with many Catholic 2nd graders with their excited parents, the hunt for proper attire began with frantic visits to the children section at local department stores. After repeated attempts at multiple locations for the correct garment size, the online heavens parted and blessed us with convenient delivery to our home. This is truly a Blessed Sacrament.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-RsWjqFr/0/L/i-RsWjqFr-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="First Holy Communion at St. Stephen Catholic Church" border="0" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-RsWjqFr/0/L/i-RsWjqFr-L.jpg" title="First Holy Communion at St. Stephen Catholic Church" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Reconciliation finished. Sacrament of the Altar completed. This communicant is well on his way for his rite of passage until his future <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/02/sacrament-of-confirmation.html">confirmation</a>. Assigned seating in the third row gave me an opportune view for this unobstructed perfect shot at ISO 3200 with my trusty <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2013/05/canon-eos-rebel-sl1-video-test.html">Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D</a>. Divine Intervention strikes again!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DqGKSKF/0/L/i-DqGKSKF-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="First Holy Communion Reception with Lechon Roast Pig" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DqGKSKF/0/L/i-DqGKSKF-L.jpg" title="First Holy Communion Reception with Lechon Roast Pig" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
If you look closely at paintings of the Last Supper in Filipino households, you can see a succulent whole roasted Lechon pig with crispy skin on the table with Jesus and his Apostles. The Lord's Supper and my son's First Communion Reception are not complete without the national dish of suckling swine of the Philippines and <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/08/the-island-of-enchantment.html">Puerto Rico</a>.
<br />

<br />
<br />
Unlike this one, many rites of passage are not a true and straight path. There will be many obstacles sight unseen in your future. Doubt will be cast and certainly authority questioned until you are well past an adult. It will all make sense later.

<br />
The new Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D digital camera takes all the "<a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Rebel</a>" goodness and wraps it in a small package. This new entry level 18 megapixel Canon Rebel with an APS-C CMOS sensor is now the lightest and smallest DSLR in the digital market today. This small form factor certainly blurs the line with their existing and not so popular <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> digital mirrorless compact camera just released in November 2012. The Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D emerges as the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> mirrorless digital camera with a real viewfinder and no silly EF-M Lens Adapter, IMHO.

<br />
Does the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D video performance stack up with its <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Rebel brothers</a>? Yes, it certainly does except for the fact it is missing an articulating screen and a larger capacity battery. Just like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> mirrorless digital camera, the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1 is missing the swivel screen and utilizes the same Canon LP-E12 battery pack. The new Canon Rebel SL1/100D also retains the quite useful touchscreen feature of the 3.0 inch LCD screen, the extended video record time of 29 minutes and 29 seconds and the full manual exposure and audio control with an external microphone jack. Enough said! Watch the <a href="http://youtu.be/fA3eYr_b7Rk">Youtube</a> video above to see for yourself!

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-m9hWczL/0/L/i-m9hWczL-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D with the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM lens and the Canon EOS M mirrorless digital camera with the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens." border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-m9hWczL/0/L/i-m9hWczL-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D with the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM lens and the Canon EOS M mirrorless digital camera with the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens." width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Surprisingly, Canon has managed to fit an optical viewfinder and a built in pop up flash in the Rebel SL1/100D with a form factor similar to the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> mirrorless digital camera. The familiar Rebel controls like Mode Dial, AE lock and even the ISO button are all in the usual locations on this small Rebel body. Full size features like a 4 fps shutter rate powered by a DIGIC V processor and video resolutions like 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60 fps fill this "baby" Rebel with adorable goodness!

<br />
<br />
My Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D rig consisted of the new Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid video head for support, the Rode VideoMic shotgun microphone with the Rycote Lyre Suspension System for audio capture and the new Hoodman Custom Finder Kit with the H32 viewfinder loupe to help in critical focus. As for lenses used in my <a href="http://youtu.be/fA3eYr_b7Rk">Youtube</a> video, I used the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L prime and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lenses. As expected, the Rode VideoMic with the more durable Rycote shock mount is a dream and can now actually fit comfortably in my camera bag. The new Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid head is larger than my Manfrotto 701 HDV head but this new head has tilting spring tension with a new quick release plate. The Hoodman Custom Finder Kit with H32 loupe is still under my pending evaluation for now. Stay tuned for more...

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-rzxRwnm/0/L/i-rzxRwnm-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D Hybrid AF II" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-rzxRwnm/0/L/i-rzxRwnm-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D Hybrid AF II" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-rebel-t4i-and-ef-40mm-f28-stm.html">Hybrid CMOS AF II</a> makes an infamous comeback but in an allegedly improved 2nd version! Canon's attempt at continuous AF during video recording was a <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-rebel-t4i-and-ef-40mm-f28-stm.html">blatant disappointment</a>. Just like the Canon EOS Rebel T4i and the Canon EOS M Hybrid AF systems, I did not expect much with the new and improved 2nd version of the Hybrid AF Servo function. Again with the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D, the continuous AF during video recording hunted back and forth like usual and completely missed the boat, IMHO! Manual focus during video is the way to go for great video!
<br />

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nJ95bwj/0/L/i-nJ95bwj-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D with Rode VideoMic with Rycote Suspension System, a Hoodman Custom Finder Kit with H32 viewfinder loupe and a Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid video head." border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nJ95bwj/0/L/i-nJ95bwj-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D with Rode VideoMic with Rycote Suspension System, a Hoodman Custom Finder Kit with H32 viewfinder loupe and a Manfrotto MVH500AH fluid video head." width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
So what is my <a href="http://youtu.be/fA3eYr_b7Rk">Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D Video Test</a> Verdict? The Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D emerges as another stellar video performer just like its <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/03/canon-eos-rebel-t3i-verdict-and-video.html">bigger Rebel brothers</a> but just in a small form factor with no articulating screen. If travel size and weight are your criteria for minimalist filmmaking, the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D is your DSLR Phoenix rising from the digital ashes!

<br />
The <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> Firmware 1.2.1 has arrived with open arms from filmmakers and video journalists. The much anticipated video fix to Canon's HD DSLR workhorse finally allows a clean HDMI output signal to an external recorder. A "clean" signal means an uncompressed 4:2:2 8 bit raw video output over HDMI to current external recorders such as the <a href="http://www.atomos.com/ninja/">Atomos Ninja 2</a> and the less expensive <a href="http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/hyperdeckshuttle/">Blackmagic Design Shuttle 2</a>. In much simpler video terms, the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> with an external recorder listed above can capture a longer continuous record times with a much higher quality video signal that can be easily manipulated and edited in post production. The <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> with the new 1.2.1 firmware update bridges the gaps of HD DSLR cinema.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-bL2zQmd/0/L/i-bL2zQmd-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS 5D Mark III clean HDMI output signal" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-bL2zQmd/0/L/i-bL2zQmd-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS 5D Mark III clean HDMI output signal" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The new "mirroring" feature of the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> allows clean uninterrupted external video monitoring over HDMI while a "mirrored" camera LCD display with all the video information clutter is shown simultaneously during video capture. This is a must for external monitoring for cinematographers to help in critical focusing and clients overlooking your film work. So in a nutshell, you can view a clean signal on an external monitor, record a clean HDMI signal devoid of compression artifacts to an external recorder and at the same time record internally to CF and SD cards the standard compressed .mov codec. A DSLR filmmaker's dream come true...

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-Mngcc9J/0/L/i-Mngcc9J-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Canon EOS 1DX at NAB 2012" border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-Mngcc9J/0/L/i-Mngcc9J-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS 1DX at NAB 2012" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Even Canon's DSLR flagship, the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/nab-2012-preview.html">1DX</a>, at this time does not have this must have feature of a clean HDMI video output signal of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. For the price of one Canon EOS 1DX, you can buy a pair of better video enabled Canon EOS 5D Mark III's. What a bargain! Enough of the bragging, let us move on to even more features of the 1.2.1 Firmware...
<br />

<br />
<br />
Wildlife photographers rejoice! The new <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> firmware 1.2.1 includes cross-type AF points at f/8. This is a more sensitive group of AF points for apertures required for super zoom and telephoto lenses with a Canon EF lens extender just like the more expensive <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/nab-2012-preview.html">Canon EOS 1DX</a>.

<br />
<br />
At this time, I do not own an external recorder with my <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> to give my followers a real world uncompressed raw video test of this new 1.2.1 firmware. I do have my <a href="http://youtu.be/XpUHN3PdycA">Canon EOS 5D Mark III Video Test</a> from last year that shows the beauty of full frame video quality with great glass. My <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Canon1dm4/videos">Canon EOS 5D Mark III Video Test</a> is a 1080p video shot at 29.97fps and the much compressed IPB internal .mov codec. In post production, I transcoded the .mov files to AppleProRes422 using Apple Compressor and edited the video files in Final Cut Pro 6.0.6. I exported my AppleProRes422 edited timeline back to Apple Compressor and submitted a Apple H264 video file for my upload to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Canon1dm4/videos">Youtube</a>.

Canon made a great DSLR even better with the addition of the new <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/EOS5DM3_firmware/" target="_blank">Canon EOS 5D Mark III Firmware 1.2.1 update</a>. Canon has finally caught up with the likes of Nikon HD DSLR's as for full featured video capabilities.

<br />
<br />
Big things do come in small packages, especially when it comes to Canon's smallest and lightest creation, the Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D DSLR. Boasting an impressive 14.36 ounces for body only with a size smaller than the current <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon Rebel T4i/650D</a>, the new <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_sl1_18_55mm_is_stm_kit#Overview" target="_blank">Canon Rebel SL1/100d</a> still packs a mighty punch like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> digital mirrorless camera.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-CdkRrXg/0/L/i-CdkRrXg-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-CdkRrXg/0/L/i-CdkRrXg-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D DSLR" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The new Rebel SL1/100d touts an 18 megapixel CMOS APS-C sensor with DIGIC V processor. 9 AF points fill the frames along with 4 frames per second shutter rate. A new version of the AF Servo called Hybrid AF II allegedly has better AF Servo during video recording. I will keep my fingers crossed for that past disappointing AF feature in the previous <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon Rebel T4i/650D</a>.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-g5LJfwn/0/L/i-g5LJfwn-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-g5LJfwn/0/L/i-g5LJfwn-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D DSLR" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
For an upcoming retail price of $649 body only and $799 with the new STM enabled kit lens in April 2013, the new Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D will be a great value just like the previous <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/03/canon-eos-rebel-t3i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T3i/600D</a>. The new Rebel SL1/100D has an impressive 1080p capable video function with an external microphone input for audio as well. Of course, video and audio have full manual control for ultimate creativity. Just like the previous Canon Rebel T4i/650D and the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a>, the new Canon Rebel SL1/100D keeps the touch screen user interface but only with a fixed 3.0 inch LCD screen. Beggars cannot be choosers!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-X8FDCr7/0/L/i-X8FDCr7-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-X8FDCr7/0/L/i-X8FDCr7-L.jpg" title="Canon EOS Rebel T5i/700D DSLR" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I almost forgot! It has only been 10 months since the previous <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon Rebel T4i/650D</a> was released, but there is an almost identical and new Canon EOS Rebel T5i/700D coming soon to replace it. What's the point? There is really nothing new besides a "real time" Live View of Creative Filter Effects and other minor things not worth mentioning. Just keep your current full size Canon Rebel and save up for the smallest and lightest DSLR from Canon next month.

<br>
<br>
Just like the BMW 3 series, Canon introduces entry level full frame luxury with the 20 megapixel <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2013/01/canon-eos-6d-video-test.html">Canon EOS 6D</a> with a street price under $2000. In the EOS full frame lineup, the Canon EOS 6D is the smallest and least expensive compared to the venerable <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon 5D Mark III</a> and the ultimate Canon flagship, the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/nab-2012-preview.html">1DX</a>.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-77CsJt2/0/L/i-77CsJt2-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-77CsJt2/0/L/i-77CsJt2-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
To the majority of DSLR owners, the lesser expensive <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/03/canon-eos-rebel-t3i-verdict-and-video.html">APS-C</a> cropped sensor sits comfortably in their camera bag. Why full frame then? Full frame means a true focal length equivalent of your lenses. A wide angle 14mm lens with a full frame sensor will give that extra wide reach for landscapes and architecture. The larger surface area of a full frame sensor produces a dreamier background bokeh with your glass compared to cropped sensors. A must for portrait photographers.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-TjJtKwG/0/L/i-TjJtKwG-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-TjJtKwG/0/L/i-TjJtKwG-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
Enough of the "why?" and now more to the "what?"...The Canon EOS 6D touts a 20 megapixel CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 5+ processor to keep up with the 4.5fps shutter rate. The smaller form factor of the Canon 6D is just about the body equivalent of the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/09/canon-eos-60d-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon 60D</a>. Also like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/09/canon-eos-60d-verdict-and-video-review.html">60D</a>, the Canon 6D has only a single Secure Digital memory card slot. Similar to the rest of Canon full frames, no built in flash. The Canon 6D has a 97% viewfinder coverage with interchangeable screens to satisfy most demanding photographers.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-3Kw8CZc/0/L/i-3Kw8CZc-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-3Kw8CZc/0/L/i-3Kw8CZc-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
The Canon EOS 6D is the first Canon DSLR with built in Wi-Fi connectivity to mobile devices and GPS capability. With the free Canon EOS Remote App for both Apple and Android operating systems, you can remotely control, capture and view images on your Apple iPad or even a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. For social media fanatics out there, you can photograph in full frame glory and wirelessly transfer your images directly to your Apple iPhone's Camera Roll. Fuzzy cellphone Facebook pictures are now things of the past...

<br>
<br>
A true test for ISO capability is a tungsten lit portrait at ISO 3200. In the usual Canon fashion, ISO 3200 is nice and clean with wonderful skin tone and detail. The Canon EOS 6D boasts an expandable ISO range of 100 to 102800. Enough range for even the faint of heart...

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DPbLzjR/0/L/i-DPbLzjR-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DPbLzjR/0/L/i-DPbLzjR-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2013/01/he-shoots-he-scores.html">He shoots, he scores!</a> The Canon EOS 6D has 11 AF points to satisfy most soccer moms and dads. The 11 AF points does not compare to the flagship Canon 1D series, but the sports photography performance of the Canon 6D is decent in my opinion. With my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 IS lens set at wide open, I was able to track my son with any of the 11 AF points in the viewfinder with no problem.

<br>
<br>
Now for the video nitty gritty. A dedicated selectable video/still record button gets you up and running for multiple resolution HD video with your choice of ALL-I or IPB compression. The Canon 6D touts the extended record time up to 29 minutes and 29 seconds with built in Time Code. Only one SDHC memory card slot for all those disappointed redundancy fans. Low light video capability? ISO 3200 is nice and clean. The Canon EOS 6D HDMI output is a selectable info overlay cropped 1080i signal that does not black out when you press the record button. An audio input allows external stereo microphones for dual channels of manually adjustable audio but of course no headphone jack to monitor audio like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon 5D Mark III</a>. Ugh!

<br>
<br>
How about aliasing and moire? I pointed the Canon EOS 6D in the direction of busy textured surfaces such as brick walls, patio screens and landscape foliage with no success. Despite all the online reviewers out there, in my honest opinion I found no horrible or distracting aliasing and moire with my practical hands on review. Other than the usual CMOS jello shutter and vertical smearing of fast moving objects, the Canon EOS 6D is a quality FULL HD DSLR.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-W8Fgk5H/0/L/i-W8Fgk5H-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-W8Fgk5H/0/L/i-W8Fgk5H-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
My Canon EOS 6D video review opinion? The Canon EOS 6D has outstanding full frame video quality but of course no headphone jack for true video fans like the more expensive Canon EOS 5D Mark III. Entry level is entry level, full frame or not...Is almost $1000 a worthy upgrade to the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon 5D Mark III</a> for audio monitoring ? IMHO, YES!!! For aspiring filmmakers upgrading from a <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a> to glorious full frame affordability of the Canon EOS 6D? Of course, an astounding YES !!!.

<br>
<br>
My Canon EOS 6D verdict? The Canon EOS 6D is a full frame still image powerhouse that caters to old school 35mm photographers. Now considered "Dinosaurs" of our time, still photographers cherish a picture worth a thousand words. Despite all the fancy gadgetry and Full HD video, the Canon EOS 6D shines as a phenomenal still image maker with outstanding resolution and low light capability. The extras are for the other 99%.

Patience is a virtue. The lure of full frame sensor DSLRs is now a step closer to reality for all those drooling APS-C sensor owners. The new <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_6d">Canon EOS 6D</a> is the latest addition to Canon's full frame DSLR lineup along with the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon EOS 5D Mark III</a> and the flagship Canon EOS 1DX.

<br />
<br />
Categorized as an entry level full frame DSLR in a compact form factor, the Canon EOS 6D packs a mighty punch with a 20 megapixel sensor, DIGIC 5+ processor, 4.5fps shutter, 1080p video with full manual control and selectable compression and the first Canon DSLR built in Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. Enough of the pleasantries, more of the good stuff later in my upcoming Canon EOS 6D Verdict and Video Review. Let us move on to video!

<br />
My brief Canon EOS 6D experience was the direct result from my friends at <a href="http://www.ntphotodigital.com/">North Tampa Photography</a>. With Canon EOS 6D in hand, I quickly shot some video to get some hands on time with this <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/09/canon-eos-60d-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon 60D</a> sized body with a full frame sensor. A big sensor means wonderful and dreamy bokeh with a true lens focal length equivalent in the viewfinder. A must for popping portraits and wide detailed landscapes. Full frame ROCKS !

<br>
<br>
Through the viewfinder of my Canon EOS 6D, I witnessed my son shoot his first soccer goal for him and for his youth soccer team, The Tigers. Still in shock and disbelief over the first proud soccer Dad moment, my son shoots and scores again for his team. The losing streak early season abruptly ends with the first Tiger win for 2013.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-pCjhwP3/0/L/i-pCjhwP3-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-pCjhwP3/0/L/i-pCjhwP3-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
"Bulldozer Number 14" to be exact. My son charges the field moving forward swiftly with tactile ease. Another routine soccer match yielded a win-win situation that morning. A first Tiger win of the season and a successful sports photography practice session with my Canon EOS 6D paired with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS zoom lens.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-BtbX7f3/0/L/i-BtbX7f3-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-BtbX7f3/0/L/i-BtbX7f3-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
This 2nd grader packs a mighty punch like my entry level full frame 20mp Canon EOS 6D. The small and lightweight form factor of this Canon EOS 6D is basically a Canon EOS 60D with a full frame sensor. Here are the basics; 20 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 5+, 4.5 fps, 11 AF points, Full HD video and the first Canon DSLR with built in WiFi/GPS. This lunchbox is full with goodies.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-ggTPN5h/0/L/i-ggTPN5h-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-ggTPN5h/0/L/i-ggTPN5h-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
The youth soccer season and my Canon EOS 6D Verdict and Video Review is not finished yet! My son has more goals to shoot and score and I have more ISO, video and image tests to review.

<br />
Happy holidays and Merry Christmas from the Soriano family. No <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/yosemite-national-park-experience.html">fancy trips</a> or winter travels this holiday season but a nice homely stay-cation in sunny Florida.

<br />
<br />
Who needs <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/12/an-epic-thanksgiving-in-new-york-city.html">Rockefeller Center in NYC</a> when you have joyous Manatees in your backyard? We made the most of our stay-cation with a large emphasis of our own local tourist attractions. Our first stop is the Manatee Viewing Center at the Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, Florida. The Sea Cows were prancing in the warm waters of electric power plant runoff with glee!

<br />
A Christmas Bricktacular at LEGOLAND Florida kicked off the holiday weekend with family and friends. My measly pre-lit synthetic fraser-fur pales in comparison to the 500,000 LEGO brick Christmas Tree towering over toy hungry kids. Call it 6 tons of peace and joy!

Home sweet home on Christmas morning. Gifts opened by my kids with joy and disappointment. Parents relieved the holidays are half over until New Year's Day. The long and treacherous journey to the in-laws begins. Oh joy!

My soon to be 22 month old daughter figured out Christmas rather quickly. Christmas tree with shiny boxes equals Peace on Earth! Back to back Cuddleuppets commercials on Sprout TV enlightened her on the true meaning of Christmas.

<br>
Armed with three model rockets and waning golden hour light, the space race began with Cold War readiness. With the help of my son's God Father at <a href="http://www.getawaymoments.com/">GetAwayMoments</a> and my whole family, they launched homemade rockets into the atmosphere. NASA would have been impressed.

<br>
<br>
This 1080p video shot with the Canon EOS M at 29.97fps was very impromptu. Completely handheld during the launch sequences, I barely managed to keep a steady track of the model rockets. I even used the built in Canon EOS M stereo microphones for audio capture. Luckily, the sunset and minimal wind conditions made optimal video shooting conditions. I edited with iMovie'11 and used Quicktime to compress a 240mb h264 video file at best quality.

A precious God Father moment with his God Son blasting rockets into the sky is also a opportune moment for a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition video shoot. <a href="http://www.getawaymoments.com/">Getawaymoments</a> maybe working on his next DIY GoPro Hero 3 Aerial Rocket Video with G Class solid propellant multi stage engines. Imagine the first GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition in the upper echelons of the atmosphere.

<br>
<br>
Watch out David Beckham, the next Filipino footballer has arrived with kicking enthusiasm and revelry. With a little encouragement and a well needed break from video games, my son came out running, quite literally, to the local youth soccer program at <a href="https://nzonesports.com/">N-Zone Sports</a>.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-74KhM6K/0/L/i-74KhM6K-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-74KhM6K/0/L/i-74KhM6K-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
The "Bulldozer" intercepts the ball to dribble the tumultuous path to overcome the wary goalkeeper a few yards away. The excited soccer dad shoots the action with his camera with simultaneous shouts of consolation. A task proved difficult.

Sports photography takes practice and more practice. With my <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/03/canon-eos-1d-mark-iv-video-test-in-wild.html">Canon EOS 1D Mark IV</a> with AF Servo enabled and my strategically placed AF point in the viewfinder, I managed to click some decent well composed soccer action pictures.

<br>
<br>
This is not my first youth soccer game photo shoot. My <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/03/her-first-soccer-game-goal.html">daughter played youth soccer</a> a couple years back with much success. Her soccer interest has waned and is now replaced by social events and the latest fashion trends.

<br>
<br>
Just like life itself, I think my son is striker bound. Heading forward through obstacles to an ultimate goal. Keeping ahead of the ball is not an easy task despite the anarchy. This soccer dad cometh with overwhelming adulation this holiday season.

<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-qSKpbMb/0/L/i-qSKpbMb-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-qSKpbMb/0/L/i-qSKpbMb-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
Fond memories. A fresh roasted turkey with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving Day sticks to my ribs like numb fingers and watery eyes on a cold evening at the Trump Wollman Ice Rink at Central Park in New York City. Let the hectic holidays begin with a family trip to the Big Apple!
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2zj7nGS/0/L/i-2zj7nGS-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2zj7nGS/0/L/i-2zj7nGS-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
The huddled masses came in droves for prosperity and freedom in early days. The Soriano family came with stroller draped with diaper bag and my <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> bound for non stop NYC cuisine and tourist attractions. Most huddled masses come to an abrupt halt at the $12 toll at the Lincoln Tunnel and take mass transit!
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-kdgKxrP/0/L/i-kdgKxrP-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-kdgKxrP/0/L/i-kdgKxrP-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
The early bird gets the worm at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you are not hitting the streets at the break of dawn for a good viewing spot, you get to watch the parade from a block away like us. With good timing and a zoom lens, you can witness the larger than life balloon characters stroll down the Avenue of the Americas.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-n4gBVsJ/0/L/i-n4gBVsJ-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-n4gBVsJ/0/L/i-n4gBVsJ-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
Explaining the unexplainable to your kids is a daunting task. The epic National September 11 Memorial at the World Trade Center reminds us about that tragic loss suffered from the acts of terrorists. The two cascading waterfalls surrounded by the names of people lost during the attacks makes a thankful Thanksgiving this holiday.

This breathtaking 1080p video of New York City was brought to you by the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> digital mirrorless camera. The "<a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon Rebel T4i/650D</a> in a Powershot form factor" gives outstanding image and video quality in a very small package. The smaller body paired with a large APS-C sensor packs a big punch especially when attached to good glass.
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-S3pjxqD/0/L/i-S3pjxqD-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-S3pjxqD/0/L/i-S3pjxqD-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
My kids hit the books during our family trip at the New York Public Library. Of course, I mean that quite literally and there was actually no reading involved. We were all to busy gawking at all the ornate architecture and amazing artwork. My fisheye images are from my <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/03/rokinon-35mm-f14-practical-lens-review.html">Rokinon</a> 8mm T3.8 Fisheye Cine lens paired with the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon EOS M</a> with Lens Mount Adapter.

<br>
<br>
Like all good Catholics, we made an obligatory visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. Like most of New York City, the famous church was under renovation. Amidst the scaffolding, the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/03/rokinon-35mm-f14-practical-lens-review.html">Rokinon</a> 8mm T3.8 Fisheye Cine Lens captured every moment with beauty and poise.

<br>
<br>
New York City's finest paid me a visit during my New York City Subway photography session. I did my homework of the Mass Transit Authority rules and regulations when it concerns photography that cold morning. After a brief confrontation with the NYPD about "no photography allowed", I quickly resolved the misinformation about the law with my own copy of the rules. As of this date, there is photography with no tripod or lights allowed without permit in the New York City Subway system. Enough said!
<br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-wsr5x7P/0/L/i-wsr5x7P-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-wsr5x7P/0/L/i-wsr5x7P-L.jpg" /></a>
<br>
<br>
Bright lights meet big city at Times Square in New York City. Night becomes day in this wall of lights from ground to sky. It is like orchestrated chaos of people, traffic and illuminated skyscrapers composing a light and sound symphony.
<br>

<br>
Cherish the freedoms of Lady Liberty and be thankful this hectic holiday season. Two values worthy of unspoken explanation.

<br />
<br />
Big things come in small packages. Consider the new mirrorless Canon EOS M as a Rebel in a Powershot body and you have yourself a wolf in sheep's clothing. Underneath the hood of Canon's first entry in the mirrorless digital camera market is an 18 megapixel APS-C sensor with DIGIC V processor like its bigger <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a> brother.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-KJD36LP/0/L/i-KJD36LP-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-KJD36LP/0/L/i-KJD36LP-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
For a retail price of $800, the Canon EOS M with EF-M 22mm f/2 STM kit lens does not come cheap when compared to other mirrorless brands like Sony, Panasonic and Nikon. The high price pays for the large APS-C sized sensor like in the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i</a> and the rest of the Canon cropped sensor lineup such as the Canon 7D. The Canon EOS M is a big sensor in a compact form factor with a new interchangeable EF-M lens mount.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-ZwWFQ9F/0/L/i-ZwWFQ9F-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-ZwWFQ9F/0/L/i-ZwWFQ9F-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The Canon EOS M shares many features of the similar priced <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a> except an actual SLR view finder, a swivel screen and a pop up flash. The differences stop there. The Hybrid AF system with continuous auto focus during video recording comes to the Canon EOS M. The AF Servo works in conjunction with STM (stepper motor) lenses for smoother lens movement in photo or video mode.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-bCCJkxG/0/L/i-bCCJkxG-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-bCCJkxG/0/L/i-bCCJkxG-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The touchscreen feature comes back to the Canon EOS M with open arms. I am not a big fan of limited tactile controls but the Canon EOS M combines real buttons with an intuitive touchscreen. The limited landscape at the rear LCD forces you to use the touchscreen at times. The on demand buttons of ISO and white balance of the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a> are gone and replaced by a press of the "Q" menu button for the touch interface. Old school button pushers rejoice, the multifunction controller remains intact for the meantime.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-csNDpXj/0/L/i-csNDpXj-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-csNDpXj/0/L/i-csNDpXj-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
With big APS-C sensors come dreamy bokeh and fantastic image quality. The included EF-M 22mm f/2 STM kit lens is fast and sharp with bursting color rendition. Now for the bad news...the autofocus is slow like turtle slow! Gone are the fast and accurate 9 AF points of the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a> with a real DSLR viewfinder. The Canon EOS M is a point and shoot camera with a point and shoot AF system. The Canon EOS M takes a good one second to lock focus on a sunny day. Poor lighting conditions give way to the external focus assist light to help out if needed. Sports photographers (aka soccer moms) in need of AI Servo for fast action shots will be disappointed.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-xKwBFkT/0/L/i-xKwBFkT-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-xKwBFkT/0/L/i-xKwBFkT-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Long time Canon photographers can use their extensive EF and EF-S glass with the Canon EOS M with the optional Canon lens mount adapter. The optical possibilities are unleashed like my Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L prime lens paired with the Canon EOS M above. Do not hold your breath when it comes to AF speed. The point and shoot AF speed of the Canon EOS M is the same with mount adapter and EF glass. Bummer!
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-Gjth77m/0/L/i-Gjth77m-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="600" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-Gjth77m/0/L/i-Gjth77m-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Aspiring photographers do not be afraid of all the technical jargon. The Canon EOS M has entry level Scene Intelligent Auto and Basic Zone modes with the addition of Creative Filters for beginners just like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a>. There is an even a fool proof Face Detect AF mode for people photos. A bad picture is not in the Canon EOS M vocabulary.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-BfhTTwh/0/L/i-BfhTTwh-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-BfhTTwh/0/L/i-BfhTTwh-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
<br />
<br />
A clean ISO 3200 will make you smile and freeze your manually focused indoor sport action shots. Just like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a>, ISO all the way up to 3200 is for everyday use with no problem. ISO 6400 is grainy but can be cleaned up in RAW post processing. Anything higher like ISO 12800 is a crime against nature on many levels.

Just like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a>, the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-video-test.html">Canon EOS M video</a> quality is outstanding in all video resolutions such as the 1080p video shot at 29.97fps shown above.
Just like the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon 5D Mark III</a> and <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/11/canon-eos-m-video-test.html">T4i/650D</a>, the Canon EOS M has an extended video recording capability up to 29 minutes and 29 seconds without the FAT32 memory card limitation. Do not expect to record hours of footage with the LP-E12 battery. With no viewfinder, the LCD Live View along with any image stabilized lens drains the battery very quickly. Buy spares!

The Canon EOS M in video mode has full manual control over exposure and audio levels for ultimate creativity. The Canon EOS M has integrated stereo microphones and a mono microphone input port on the side that allows external audio devices to be connected for audio capture. DSLR filmmakers can now have a primary or secondary discreet camera for multiple camera shoots.

<br />
The continuous AF during video recording from the Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D makes it over to the new Canon EOS M with all its disappointment. As you can recall, the Hybrid AF system allows objects or people to be continuously tracked in focus during video recording. With Canon's new EF-M STM or stepper motor lenses, the Hybrid AF system allows smoother lens focusing when compared to USM and non USM EF lenses. Everything sounds good on paper but ultimately an epic fail in execution. Just watch the video below and judge for yourself...

<br />
My Hybrid AF conclusion is the same for the Canon EOS M and the Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D. I give it a big thumbs down. Canon needs to do its homework on AF Servo technology because it simply does not work well at all! My old school policy of good camera work is manual focus, manual exposure, manual audio and lots of practice.

For all those Final Cut Pro 6 and 7 fans out there, I have an Apple NLE treat! Just like the modified .plist of the Canon E-1 Movie plugin of the Canon Rebel T4i/650D, I hacked the .plist again for the new Canon EOS M. With this .plist modification, you can automatically log and transfer your Canon EOS M .mov files to AppleProRes422 instead of manually transcoding. Just read the above .plist and follow my links in my last <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i650d-video-test.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D Video Test</a> for detailed instructions.

The force was strong this weekend, just like my Canon EOS M verdict. I was at the premiere of LEGO Star Wars Miniland at <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/10/legoland-florida-experience_17.html">LEGOLAND Florida</a> snapping away LEGO pics with my Canon EOS M around my neck. My Canon EOS M conclusion? The image quality out of this Rebel in a Powershot body with interchangeable lenses is outstanding. I always wanted a Canon Powershot G1X with a DSLR sized sensor. Now my mirrorless dreams have come true. Of course, any good dream has to end and the disappointing Hybrid AF is definitely from the dark side of the force.

Nothing says cool like a hot pink trike and glitter shoes! The new Canon EOS M is the perfect compact travel companion with the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and the ease of use of a <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a>. Despite the slow point and shoot AF for pictures and disappointing AF servo during video recording, the Canon EOS M shines as a portable powerhouse with DSLR image quality.

A 1080p video shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III at 29.97fps. Edited with Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 and used Compressor to get a 1.2gb h264 video file at best quality. I used the Canon E-1 Movie Plugin to automatically transcode to AppleProRes422. The Canon EOS 5D Mark III was paired with the Canon EF 17-40 f/4L, Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. For audio, I used a Sennheiser MKE400 shotgun microphone. The new Canon EOS M maybe a day late and a dollar short in the competitive mirrorless camera market. Panasonic, Sony and Leica, to name a few, have dominated the compact, no real viewfinder and interchangeable lens market for hungry consumers for the past several shopping seasons. What does the Canon EOS M have to offer this late in the game?
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-hMLND7s/0/L/i-hMLND7s-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-hMLND7s/0/L/i-hMLND7s-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
For a retail price of $800, the 18 megapixel Canon EOS M features a very large APS-C sensor with DIGIC V processor, like in the <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D</a>. With a large CMOS sensor in a compact form factor comes a new interchangeable EF-M lens system as well. The EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens is the standard kit lens with the Canon EOS M. As a 35mm focal length equivalent on a crop sensor, the new EF-M lens is fast and quick due to the f/2 aperture and stepper motor. Be patient, I will have more ISO and still image quality tests in my upcoming Canon EOS M Verdict and Video Review.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-M6cLWx9/0/L/i-M6cLWx9-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-M6cLWx9/0/L/i-M6cLWx9-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
Enough with the basics! The Canon EOS M features full manual exposure and audio control for Full HD 1080p glorious video. The full manual control is partly touchscreen because of the smaller landscape of the mirrorless form factor but that gimmicky feature looks bad only on paper. For such a compact camera, the touchscreen is quite useful and handy at times. For audio inputs, the Canon EOS M has built in stereo microphones and a mic jack for an external microphone. Now for my actual Canon EOS M Video Test...
<object height="225" width="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/R1AjQfGBMk4?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param>

Now for the video good stuff! The video quality is impressive, especially with the new EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens. The color, sharpness and that dreamy "bokeh" in the video footage makes this a formidable contender in the mirrorless market. You basically get Canon Rebel T4i/650D video quality in half the size. The full manual control for exposure and audio is a bonus for the budget filmmaker. There will be soon a EF-M to EF lens mount adapter for the Canon EOS M so I can mount all my "L" glass like the big boys. Just like the T4i/650D and 5D Mark III, the Canon EOS M has total video capture time of 29 minute and 59 seconds. My kid's Christmas Recital can last longer than 12 minutes. Hooray...I think?
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DhZ69SN/0/L/i-DhZ69SN-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-DhZ69SN/0/L/i-DhZ69SN-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
Now for my initial bad stuff! I am a big fan of manual focus during video capture. My experienced eyes and precise fingers can roll that lens barrel with precision better than most machines. The focus throw on the new Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 STM lens is average but very smooth to focus manually. The only problem is the EF-M lenses need power for AF and MF. Since there is no external AF/MF switch on EF-M lenses, you have to go into the menu to select the focus option. Not very user friendly when you are switching back and forth from still pictures with AF and shooting movies with manual focus. The other pink elephant in the room is the infamous Hybrid AF Servo during video capture. Just like the Canon Rebel T4i/650D, the continuous AF during video recording was a <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-rebel-t4i-and-ef-40mm-f28-stm.html">big disappointment</a>. My Canon EOS M Hybrid AF Video Test is coming soon to give you more details. Patience!
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-RbMXqb3/0/L/i-RbMXqb3-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="277" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-RbMXqb3/0/L/i-RbMXqb3-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
For all those Apple Final Cut Pro fanboys!
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-XntZv9N/0/L/i-XntZv9N-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-XntZv9N/0/L/i-XntZv9N-L.jpg" width="400" /></a>
The Canon EOS M is a mighty new contender in the mirrorless market. My dream Powershot G1X and the new Powershot G15 did not feature full manual exposure and audio control to my disappointment. I think the Canon marketing department has something up their sleeves for the moment. Now, if they only lower the Canon EOS M price point like the other mirrorless brands...

When two leopards, a soldier and a Nun exchange sugary treats in a dark parking lot of an elementary school, you get a bad joke and my kid's annual <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/10/trunk-or-treat.html">Trunk or Treat</a> days before Halloween.<br />

Costumed "farces" unite to gather and consume sweets at an alarming rate before bedtime. The high fructose race against the clock is hindered by smothering parents capturing the precious moments.<br />

Cute and adorable leopards on the prowl. While my almost 20 month old <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/03/canon-eos-rebel-t3i-video-serenity.html">baby</a> distracts curious onlookers with charming fuzzy wuzzies, my clever oldest makes her move to the candy bowl. Candy corn is pushed aside for peanut butter cups in this leopard den!<br />

Let the Holiday Season begin! Any trip to the "Dollar" and "Crafts" store for seasonal decorations is justified from October to Easter for the "boss". Nothing says themed presentations like tacky and ornate plastic goods!<br />

A father and son sharing a defining moment with matching soldier costumes this Halloween season. "Moment" meaning my last minute scramble to Army Navy Surplus stores all over the county for proper garment sizes in digital camouflage. My son, like me, shares the same fascination with anything "<a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/11/airfest-2011-experience.html">military</a>". From weapons of mass destruction to his all time favorite Call of Duty: MW3, my son is the "true" modern soldier.<br />

Bright Lights, Brick City! The month of October marks the 1st Anniversary of <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/10/legoland-florida-experience_17.html">LEGOLAND Florida
</a> and the family friendly Halloween festivities of Brick-or-Treat. Beautiful Fall weather this weekend contrasts with last year's rainy <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/10/new-legoland-florida-preview.html">LEGOLAND Florida sneak preview weekend</a> in 2011.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-KSSx3bn/0/L/i-KSSx3bn-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-KSSx3bn/0/L/i-KSSx3bn-L.jpg" /></a>
Miniland USA is transformed into a Halloween Brick-or-Treat spooktacular. Ghostly goblins and scary LEGO creatures of the night haunt the LEGO grounds of Miniland USA. My young ones gobbled up all the free trick or treat candies of the Brick-or-Treat Trail and I clicked pictures a many of illuminated LEGO cities in Miniland USA. When it comes to sugared freebies, corporate endorsements are a blessing.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-cKMhH25/0/L/i-cKMhH25-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-cKMhH25/0/L/i-cKMhH25-L.jpg" /></a>
Look who's big enough to ride with the family? My 19 month old baby daughter can finally join us in theme park rides. No more stroller duty for her! Look who's too cheap to buy the souvenir photo of this glorious event? My 18 megapixel <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/06/canon-eos-rebel-t4i-verdict-and-video.html">Canon EOS Rebel T4i</a> saved me at least twenty bucks!
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nns5vb7/0/L/i-nns5vb7-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-nns5vb7/0/L/i-nns5vb7-L.jpg" /></a>
Nothing says togetherness better than social connectivity under the old Banyan Tree in Cypress Gardens at LEGOLAND Florida. The <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/09/apple-iphone-5-experience-and-video-test.html">Apple iPhone</a> is the glue that bonds long time family friends of <a href="http://www.getawaymoments.com/">Getawaymoments</a>.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-9L7qJbX/0/L/i-9L7qJbX-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-9L7qJbX/0/L/i-9L7qJbX-L.jpg" /></a>
At first glance, progress moving nowhere! Second glance, LEGOLAND Florida closes at 9pm on weekends in October. Miniland USA is illuminated like NYC's Time Square and the Las Vegas Strip but all in LEGO.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-zPhVX7d/0/L/i-zPhVX7d-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-zPhVX7d/0/L/i-zPhVX7d-L.jpg" /></a>
Even the Tampa Bay skyline makes a night debut! Old City Hall, Tampa Theater and even the "beer" can building glimmers in the fake Hillsborough river moonlight. Miniland USA at night is quite remarkable...

A year has gone by but <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Canon1dm4">Youtube</a> makes video memories last forever. Just a quick montage of the rainy preview weekend at LEGOLAND Florida last year. Get a towel, you will definitely need it...

Take one part baby stroller and one part GoPro Hero 2 to LEGOLAND Florida. You have yourself the ultimate mobile infant dolly to glide the crowded streets of Miniland USA. When the cinematic greats of <a href="http://www.getawaymoments.com/">Getawaymoments</a> and <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/">ChadSorianoPhotoBlog</a> converge, you also have vehicular verite at its best!

Happy orange LEGO pumpkin Halloween from the Soriano family! May all your trick or treat bags be filled with less candy corn and more chocolate with a heavy emphasis on Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Who could say no to this adorable baby? I see chocolate and iPhone 6 in her future. The Apple iPhone 5 launch day was just three weeks shy of a calendar year since the release of the previous <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/10/apple-iphone-4s-experience-and-video.html">Apple iPhone 4S</a>. Did almost a year make a world of difference? Consider the new Apple iPhone 5 more of an evolution than a revolution to the more advanced average consumer, nowadays.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-NnRffC2/0/L/i-NnRffC2-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-NnRffC2/0/L/i-NnRffC2-L.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
My Apple iPhone preorder days are over. Ever since the two previous Apple iPhone launches, I learned a valuable lesson about supply and demand in the Apple world. Avoid the demand online and head to the supply with no wait at your local AT&T Store like this one at International Plaza in Tampa, Florida. No lines, no chaos and no headache!
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-4sTvv7J/0/L/i-4sTvv7J-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="600" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-4sTvv7J/0/L/i-4sTvv7J-L.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Faster, lighter, slimmer and sharper describes the new Apple iPhone 5 smartphone. A faster A6 processor cranks out the new features of iOS 6. A new design with lighter materials gives a near weightless and slim form factor than the previous Apple iPhone 4S. The longer screen gives way to a sharper "Retina" display of 4 inches instead of 3.5. The crystal clear 1136x640 resolution screen is now a native 16x9 aspect ratio. Hooray for the video filmmakers! I can go on and on about the new features of the Apple iPhone 5 but I am really interested in the photography and video capabilities. Read on...
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-b6xbj7d/0/L/i-b6xbj7d-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-b6xbj7d/0/L/i-b6xbj7d-L.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
The 8 megapixel iSight camera with f/2.4 lens touts a wider field of view and better low light capability with improved noise reduction for both stills and HD video. The slightly wider angle glass lens helps the already amazing picture quality in daytime and nighttime.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-TVLv9Rn/0/L/i-TVLv9Rn-L.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="94" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-TVLv9Rn/0/L/i-TVLv9Rn-L.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
Although this new Blogger interface does not give this Apple iPhone 5 Panoramic photo at ISO 3200 justice, the low light performance and noise reduction makes a world of difference. This ISO 3200 is comparable to my <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2011/04/canon-powershot-elph-300-hs-video-test.html">Canon Powershot ELPH 300 HS</a>. This impressive caveat combined with the new iOS 6 Panorama feature gives a new meaning to "Smartphone". Minus the optical zoom of the Canon ELPH 300 HS, the Apple iPhone 5 is really a camera with a phone built in...
<object height="225" width="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vU-Wh5qUt0M?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vU-Wh5qUt0M?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="225" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><br />
<object height="225" width="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kbdWWrFRT4?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kbdWWrFRT4?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="225" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><br />
The improved iSight camera features spill over to the amazing 1080p Full HD video capture of the Apple iPhone 5. The wider angle f/2.4 glass lens, improved noise reduction in low light and better in camera image stabilization makes this iPhone 5 an impressive filmmaker's tool.
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-rmqRZz5/0/L/i-rmqRZz5-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="600" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-rmqRZz5/0/L/i-rmqRZz5-L.jpg" /></a>
My Apple iPhone 5 verdict? The photo and video capabilities are a night and day difference with the previous iPhone 4S. The physical attributes of the iPhone 5 are simply beautiful. A great piece of Apple machinery!
<a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-6nrbMkM/0/L/i-6nrbMkM-L.jpg" imageanchor="1" style=""><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-6nrbMkM/0/L/i-6nrbMkM-L.jpg" /></a>
Now for the bad stuff! The Apple Lightning connector is great on paper but horrible for the rest of the world with a plethora of previous dock connectors. It is just another Apple product to consume with our money. The Google iMap application is now replaced with a Apple designed Map app powered by Tom Tom. Why change something that is not broken? My quick solution to this problem is to download the free Google Chrome App. Bookmark the built in Google Map tab in the Chrome browser and your Google Map problems are solved. Hurry and download the Chrome App before Apple pulls the plug!

According to Canon, the Canon EOS 6D is the smallest and lightest full frame DSLR with built in GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities. Consider the Canon 6D a full frame <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2010/09/canon-eos-60d-verdict-and-video-review.html">Canon 60D</a> with no articulating screen but with most of the features of the bigger and more expensive <a href="http://www.chadsorianophotoblog.com/2012/04/canon-5d-mark-iii-practical-review-and.html">Canon 5D Mark III</a>. I have to say most features because there is no headphone jack to monitor audio for video as well as dual slots for flash memory. At a retail price of $2099, the Canon EOS 6D is expected around December 2012 to hit the streets.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-GCWDFT5/0/L/i-GCWDFT5-L.png"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-GCWDFT5/0/L/i-GCWDFT5-L.png" alt="" border="0" height="285" width="400" /></a><br /><br />The full frame Canon EOS 6D is priced and marketed in between the Canon 7D and the more expensive Canon 5D Mark III in the EOS lineup. Canon APS-C and EF-S lens photographers maybe less shy to upgrade to all the advantages of a full frame sensor. Take note, the Canon 6D with DIGIC 5+ has only an 11 AF point focus system compared to the 61 AF points of the 5D Mark III, along with a slower 4.5 fps shutter rate compared to 6 fps of the Mark III. You get what you pay for...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-GNsp7c4/0/L/i-GNsp7c4-L.png"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-GNsp7c4/0/L/i-GNsp7c4-L.png" alt="" border="0" height="301" width="400" /></a><br /><br />The Canon 6D's shortcomings are made up by the additional features of consumer add-ons like GPS tagging and Wi-Fi capabilities. Camera Pro's may frown upon gimmicky features, but the built Wi-Fi has caught my consumer eye. Canon has developed a mobile device App to work in conjunction with the Canon 6D for a host of Wi-Fi enabled remote capabilities. The Full HD video features carry over from the Canon 5D Mark III as well, except for the infamous headphone jack to monitor audio during video capture. Minus that useful function, the Canon 6D can record up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds of 1080p video in ALL-I and IPB compression rates like its big brother. I have to add full control over video exposure and audio levels, also. Not too shabby for a smaller and better featured Canon 5D Mark II...Did you notice the removal of the joystick controller on both body and new BG-E13 grip? You now have the Canon 60D multi-controller dial instead. Hmmm...at least you have the Live View/Movie record button to quickly go back and forth from stills to movie mode!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2NbTcTF/0/L/i-2NbTcTF-L.png"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-2NbTcTF/0/L/i-2NbTcTF-L.png" alt="" border="0" height="286" width="400" /></a><br /><br />I almost forgot about the new <a href="http://www.canon-europe.com/About_Us/Press_Centre/Press_Releases/Consumer_News/Cameras_Accessories/PowerShot_G15_and_PowerShot_SX50_HS.aspx">Canon Powershot G15</a> announcement. Obviously, overshadowed by its bigger Canon G1X advanced point and shoot brother, the Canon Powershot G15 features a smaller sensor and a faster f/1.8 multi-zoom lens. The Canon G15 loses the articulating screen of the previous G12 and still does not feature full manual control over video like the ,yet to be released, mirrorless Canon EOS M.
