The dog days of summer are behind us and the infamous first day of school hit the Soriano household like freight train. Up before sunrise, get the lunches packed and bulldoze the kids out of bed is just the short list of morning endeavors. There is something refreshing about this school season. It is Serena's introduction to her sibling's and cousin's elementary school. Consider it a precursor to her preschool days!
I remember six continuous weeks of preschool tantrums of year's past for my grown up son. Those days have come and gone. First grade complete with addition and subtraction tables is the new stubborn obstacle for my mini-clone. Wait! I take that statement back. Getting out of bed is obstacle number one.
A big whopping Fourth grade already! Social networking is now a required course for these up and coming Millennials. Without a doubt,my daughter is awaiting the arrival of the iPhone 5 with open arms of anticipation.
I am counting the days, hours and minutes when my youngest daughter Serena will join this first day of school portrait. They will have iPad 5's in their backpack for course books and iPhone 8's in their pocket to text each other about the latest cool App!

ReplyDeleteAbout 5 months ago I bought my first DSLR, a Canon 60D + Tamron 18-270mm. I really like the combo, but knew the lens would be a compromise once I got better.
I was wondering on you camera lens combo for the back to school shots. The colors and detail are really incredible! I read your review of the Sigma 30mm f1.4, and really think that will be my next lens.
I know it is way more money, but what do you think of the Sigma vs. the Canon 24-70L f2.8? I know the Canon only goes down to 2.8, but do you find you need to go below 2.8 often anyway? Maybe I will just rent them and give them a try.

ReplyDeleteThe lens that I recommend for crop sensor cameras such as the 60D is the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens.Although not an "L" lens, the color, sharpness and contrast are equivalent to an "L" lens. Not cheap, of course but it is the only Canon walk around lens with f/2.8 and built in IS. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 are in two different categories and difficult to compare. One is a prime with extreme shallow focus and the other is a walk around zoom. The Canon 24-70mmm is not a practical focal length for a crop but very practical for full frame.
