He Shoots, He Scores !

Through the viewfinder of my Canon EOS 6D, I witnessed my son shoot his first soccer goal for him and for his youth soccer team, The Tigers. Still in shock and disbelief over the first proud soccer Dad moment, my son shoots and scores again for his team. The losing streak early season abruptly ends with the first Tiger win for 2013.



"Bulldozer Number 14" to be exact. My son charges the field moving forward swiftly with tactile ease. Another routine soccer match yielded a win-win situation that morning. A first Tiger win of the season and a successful sports photography practice session with my Canon EOS 6D paired with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS zoom lens.



This 2nd grader packs a mighty punch like my entry level full frame 20mp Canon EOS 6D. The small and lightweight form factor of this Canon EOS 6D is basically a Canon EOS 60D with a full frame sensor. Here are the basics; 20 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 5+, 4.5 fps, 11 AF points, Full HD video and the first Canon DSLR with built in WiFi/GPS. This lunchbox is full with goodies.

The Proud Soccer Dad Cometh

Watch out David Beckham, the next Filipino footballer has arrived with kicking enthusiasm and revelry. With a little encouragement and a well needed break from video games, my son came out running, quite literally, to the local youth soccer program at N-Zone Sports.



The "Bulldozer" intercepts the ball to dribble the tumultuous path to overcome the wary goalkeeper a few yards away. The excited soccer dad shoots the action with his camera with simultaneous shouts of consolation. A task proved difficult.



Sports photography takes practice and more practice. With my Canon EOS 1D Mark IV with AF Servo enabled and my strategically placed AF point in the viewfinder, I managed to click some decent well composed soccer action pictures.



This is not my first youth soccer game photo shoot. My daughter played youth soccer a couple years back with much success. Her soccer interest has waned and is now replaced by social events and the latest fashion trends.



Just like life itself, I think my son is striker bound. Heading forward through obstacles to an ultimate goal. Keeping ahead of the ball is not an easy task despite the anarchy. This soccer dad cometh with overwhelming adulation this holiday season.

Madeline's First Track Meet

Running in circles is not my cup of tea. Just the thought of running a long distance makes me exhausted. As for my daughter, the sport of Track and Field events means she will not get kicked in the shins anymore.



Runners gather en masse like a Justin Bieber concert at the first track meet of the season. Track and Field Teams from the schools of the Catholic Diocese compete in several events such as relay, sprint medleys, discus, javelin and long jumps throughout the season.



The competition from other schools was just as tough as the lighting conditions with "Friday Night Lights". Stadium lighting is not the ideal light for freezing action but not all sport arenas can be like the Super Bowl. When the sun finally went down, I was pushing the ISO to 6400 to prevent motion blur. Even equipped with fast f/2.8 and f/4 glass, the image grain began to look like winter snow.



The last time my daughter ran this fast was to the nearest shopping mall for the latest Vera Bradley, Hello Kitty or Apple Store for the latest products. The spirit of competition and sportsmanship fills her running shoes. Although, she would also gladly accept a Hipster or the latest iPhone 4S around her neck than any shiny medal.

We are South Pasco Predators!

Running fast and hard. My nephew's last youth football game of the season ends with a well deserved victory. The South Pasco Predators are now playoff bound and I was there to capture this ever sweet moment.



Game day means putting your game face on. Winning the game takes serious concentration as well as teamwork with your fellow players. The virtues of sportsmanship starts early even in grade school.



Following the football through my Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS lens takes concentration as well. With every play and first down, I anticipate that "money" shot one click at a time. Of course, practice makes perfect and 32gb memory cards fill up fast.

LaserStrike Laser Tag at The Ice Sports Forum Experience

Call of Duty: Black Ops trained my son well in the art of LaserStrike Laser Tag at the Ice Sports Forum. Aggressive youthful visions of dual wield LaserTron LT-11 phasers came to mind with full auto capability but were halted by silly LaserStrike game rules. The only dual wielding going on was the double Birthday Party of my son and daughter at The Ice Sports Forum.



Double Birthdays means dual cakes. Two Happy Birthday songs followed by two candle blowing wishes. More the merrier, right? At least we can have boys versus girls LaserStrike Laser Tag competitions. As my son says, "Boys rule, girls drool."



Like any good strategy, my daughter's defense is a secret Weapon of Mass Destruction. These WMD's are filled with hormonal rage armed with pink phasers. A deadly combination to say the least.



Double cakes, Pizza, Wings and reams of soda pop were not enough to fill the hungry appetites of Laser Tag gamers. My wife made even more sugary treats on top of all yummy goodness. Cheeseburger Cupcakes are all the rage. Vanilla cupcakes for buns and chocolate cupcakes for hamburger meat. You cannot forget the condiments. Red icing for ketchup, flattened yellow icing for cheese,green icing for relish, sugar crystals for sesame seeds and too top it all off, french fries made out of sliced sugar cookies. Yummy!



LaserStrike Laser Tag soldiers unite! Maybe when my newborn daughter Serena celebrates her First Birthday, we can have a Trifecta Birthday Party. Three cakes, three Birthday songs, three Laser Tag teams...

Cheetahs 2nd Place in Spring Championship !

I thought my daughter's youth soccer team would never recover from three consecutive losses early in the season. Now the Cheetahs placed second in the N-Zone Sports Spring Championship against 4 other teams.



The first round of the playoff game ended in victory against the Lions. It was a nail biting game with mistakes made on both sides. Despite the early summer heat, the Cheetahs held their own against the Lions. Triumph followed!



The next team, the Green Hornets, remained the undefeated champs for three years. The Cheetahs were in for a mighty challenge. Already exhausted from the first game just an hour before, the Cheetahs had to overcome a mighty adversary.



The Lion's overwhelming experience got the best of the Cheetahs. Soccer goal after soccer goal, the inevitable doom approached the wary kids. Defeat!



My daughter's smile still shined through the gloom of conquest by the Green Hornets. They may have lost but my daughter caught the last little bit of hope in her second place trophy.



"My trophy is not a girl" said my daughter. I told her there is always next season.
